I'd always wondered about Barjac and the great Place established by Anselm Kiefer. His use of heroic scale does not prevent intimacy and this exhibition (RA) establishes its lineage as a reaction to Speer and other prewar UKIPpers. 

Sigmar Polke (Tate Modern) is also powerful, but in a different intense thoughtful way; he creates a ground for action and inhabits the mind of the observer through his intervention in their experience field
